The smallest of the bookshelf/stander monitors in the Sonetto "collection" from Sonus Faber uses a 2-way, 2-speaker configuration with bass-loading via a rectangular bass-reflex port - and therefore with laminar airflow, easier to control than that generated by a circular-section port - located in the lower area of the front panel. As far as the loudspeakers used are concerned, they have been designed specifically for the Sonetto range by Sonus Faber. Firstly, there is a 29 mm diameter silk dome tweeter with DAD (Damped Apex Dome) technology and viscoelastic decoupling from the front panel. This tweeter is complemented by a 150 mm diameter midwoofer with a cone composed of a special natural fibre and a mixture of unpressed air-dried paper pulp, which provides extreme linearity and very low dynamic compression. The assembly, mounted in an iconic Sonus Faber lute-shaped enclosure, is driven by an anti-resonant frequency divider filter design with optimised amplitude and phase curves for the best possible spatial and temporal performance. Executed with audiophile-grade components and tuned by ear, this filter allows the Sonetto I to reproduce frequencies of the order of 50 Hz with virtually no loss and withstand attack powers of up to 150 watts, giving it great versatility in both High Fidelity and multi-channel audio or Home Cinema applications.
