Small, compact and visually unique, the new Studio 89 is a small speaker without compromise. Despite its small dimensions, it contains an impressive compendium of acoustic technology and, although it is a 100% Monitor Audio speaker, the result of our Transparent Design Philosophy, it is as unique in the range as the sensational Hyphn.
The MTM (Mid-Tweeter-Mid) Transducer Assembly offers the advantages of vertical symmetry. Additionally, increasing the surface area of the mid/bass driver cone and voice coils improves dynamic capability and interaction with the room floor and ceiling. Functioning as a point source, sound dispersion is wide, spacious and enveloping.
The Studio 89 mid/bass speaker cones are made of three ultra-thin layers to ensure rigidity and strength. An outer layer of C-CAM, which stands for “Ceramic Clad Aluminum Magnesium Alloy,” sits atop a central Nomex core with a honeycomb structure, while the bottom layer is made of intertwined carbon fibers. The result: super light and very, very resistant.
The new Studio 89 is based on an R&D philosophy based on maintaining a perfect balance between design and technology. One is never allowed to dominate the other, and both play a vital role in delivering on our promise of musical neutrality and acoustic transparency. Physical speakers are designed to fit comfortably into their environment. Compact in size and extremely slim, the Studio 89's design optimizes acoustics and helps present a much wider soundstage in the listening area. The enclosure is also carefully reinforced inside to ensure structural rigidity.
The frequency divider filters have been the subject of hours and hours of listening and a rigorous selection of the components that make them up, using only the best custom-made polypropylene and polyester capacitors, air-core coils and core coils. Low-loss laminated steel to maximize signal transfer and minimize distortion for optimal sound reproduction.
The MPD III (Micro-Folded Diaphragm) transducer provides precise, natural highs with extreme ease. Its ultra-fast reaction folds, similar to those of an accordion, produce a smooth and wide response in equal parts.
The Studio 89 is compact for good reason. We know that space is a scarce commodity in the home, while sound capable of filling a large room is a necessity. Advances in metal cone technology for transducers and very powerful magnetic motors mean that the two are not mutually exclusive.
