A beautiful retro aesthetic reminiscent of such legendary McIntosh achievements as the MC275 tube power amplifier, constitutes the letter of presentation of the MCD85, a versatile digital stereo source that will satisfy the most demanding thanks to an exquisite combination of technology and Manufacturing quality that draws on McIntosh 's unique experience in exceptional audio.
Compatible with CDs, SACDs, data DVDs and digital files stored on USB flash drives, the MCD85 incorporates sophisticated digital circuitry featuring an audiophile grade D/A conversion “chip” with 32-bit technology, whose 8 channels have been configured in the exclusive Quad Balanced architecture with the aim of maximizing parameters such as the linearity of the frequency response curve, the signal-to-noise ratio, the separation between channels and the dynamic range while minimizing distortion.
The MCD85 can also play digital files encoded in such popular formats as AAC, AIFF, ALAC, DSD (up to DSD256), PCM up to 384 kHz, FLAC, MP3, WAV and WMA. As far as connectivity is concerned, the MCD85 includes two coaxial digital inputs and two optical digital inputs, a front USB input, and fixed-level analog outputs in both balanced and unbalanced modes.
Another key element of this refined digital stereo source is its transport mechanics, which highlights the use of a high-precision cast aluminum tray that, in combination with advanced digital servo control, ensures extremely fast and silent operation. In addition, the data contained on the disk is read at double the normal speed in order to improve data tracking and error correction.
The MCD85 is completed with one of the American firm's iconic treated glass front panels and, as is the norm for the American firm, top-level construction.
