Defined by its creators as the ultimate digital audio processor (DAC) in the Box Design range of electronics from Pro-Ject, the Box RS DAC is a true reference D/A conversion system that is not only executed according to the most rigorous high-end criteria, but also has a feature unprecedented among products in its class and price range: the possibility of selecting the output circuitry to work with transistors configured in Class A or vacuum tubes. It can also perform the functions of a very high-end USB audio interface for enthusiasts of the new very high-resolution digital sound, while including an I2S interface plus a master clock signal output for seamless integration with the exquisite CD Box RS transport mechanics. In addition to a wide range of inputs to ensure maximum compatibility with all types of digital sources, the DAC Box RS also supports DSD monobit digital signals (up to DSD128) via PCM. All inputs support 24-bit/192 kHz encoded audio data (except for the optical input, which is limited to 24-bit/96 kHz) and operate in fully asynchronous mode. And, as is standard with Box Design's RS Series, the analogue section uses a 100 percent balanced topology.
