Defined by its creators with the eloquent qualifier "Absolute True Fidelity DAC", the RD160 is a stylish piece of electronics that stands out for the incredible level of engineering refinement it incorporates with the aim of taking the conversion of digital audio signals to the analogue domain to its maximum expression, all with the added bonus of a price that is unrivalled in the most elite high-end field.
The first highlight is the ROSE DPC ("Digital Processing Core") module, in which all processing blocks are designed to maintain optimum signal precision to ensure the most natural sound possible.
The second key technological element of the RD160 is the so-called ROSE CIM ("Completely Isolated & Moduled") Architecture, a topology designed to maximise sound quality via absolute isolation and modular structure.
Specifically, the DAC block of the new ROSE HiFi employs a two-chip solution, with the first chip, an AK4191, handling the digital filtering stages and the initial delta-sigma conversion, while the second chip, an AK4499EX, handles the conversion to the analogue domain.
Another important feature of this refined electronics is the unique ROSE NRA ("Noise Reduction Analog") Filter, integrated in the analogue stage in order to achieve a flat frequency response even in the lower octave of the spectrum, resulting in no roll-off in the frequency response and therefore unrestricted restitution from the low end to the ambient details in the high-frequency range.
The icing on the RD160 is provided by three ultra-low noise linear power supplies that supply power to the digital input stage and the left and right analogue output stages, thus minimising crosstalk and crosstalk between them.
