Quad 33 + Quad 303 x2
Pack content
Like the legendary original 33, marketed in 1967, this is a radically "analogue" preamplifier, and therefore without an internal DAC, although its functionality has been modified to suit contemporary requirements.
The vinyl filters have been removed, while the bass, treble and cut-off slope knobs have been replaced by bass, tilt (an elaborate form of tone curve correction developed by Peter Walker in 1982 for the 34 preamp) and balance controls.
Connectivity has also evolved, with the original model's DIN input and output connectors replaced by a mix of RCA and XLR jacks, four line inputs and one phono input (MM and MC compatible), plus two 12V trigger signal inputs and a USB input for software updates.
As far as the circuitry is concerned, it remains true to its revolutionary basic design, while recognising the substantially higher quality of today's electronic components compared to those available in the 1960s.
The revamped 33 is completed by a dedicated headphone amplifier with current feedback topology and high slew rate, ensuring outstanding dynamics and detail with all types of headphones.

Stereo power amplifier
A most unique amplifier of which it is worth noting first of all that the original model, launched in 1967, continues to be admired by Hi-Fi enthusiasts and recording engineers for three reasons: its exceptional reliability, the installation flexibility afforded by its compact dimensions, and its sweet, yet energetic and richly detailed sound.
In keeping with this philosophy, the ground-breaking circuit innovation developed by QUAD's founder, the triple output stage, has been preserved at the heart of the amplifier in the new 303, with the addition of inputs with RCA and XLR connectors. Updated with the best available components and preserving Class AB operation, the novel "triple symmetrical" design employed is faithful in its basic conception to the original, resulting in a fully balanced output stage and making the quiescent current independent of the temperature of the power transistors.
Furthermore, distortion is reduced to decidedly low levels without sacrificing stability, and this performance is maintained whatever the dynamic conditions. A significant increase in output power is accompanied by a significant increase in current delivery capability, thanks to the use of a 200 VA low-noise toroidal power transformer, and the package is completed with the possibility of a mono configuration to use two 303s in a system requiring more power.
