Thorens has been with SoundWall models for over 40 years. The HP 360 and HP 380 models were very successful, speakers that radiated the entire frequency range as dipoles. We were a little ahead of our time back then. However, the new SoundWall HP 600 adopts the radical concept of its ancestors: it emits the same intensity from the front and back at the same time, spreading its sound much more precisely and uniformly.
This brings, especially in considerably large rooms, clear tangible benefits because, with its dipole characteristics, the Thorens SoundWall HP 600 interacts at all frequencies and adapts very well to the acoustics of the room, even if there are large spaces and resonant or reflective elements. .
Like its historical role model, the SoundWall HP 600 is a three-way speaker model based on the open baffle principle. The midrange drivers vibrate freely on their super-flat mounted baffle, so there's no housing or other damping material. Such builds are popular due to their agile and precise playstyle.
The dozen woofers create spectacular bass pressure. A challenge with open "walls of sound" is always the bass. With the means and possibilities of the 80s, the original SoundWall delivered decent but not impressive bass. In the new SoundWall HP 600, there are 12 slightly larger drivers per channel. But thanks to clever wiring, these dozen woofers achieve high efficiency and impressive deep bass that easily reach up to 40 Hertz.
The midrange drivers surround two tweeters that operate back to back to maintain dipole character throughout their adjustable frequency range. The result is a free and open sound with exceptions
With twelve 15-centimeter woofers, two midrange drivers, and two tweeters per channel, the SoundWall HP 600 has a great visual presence. However, due to its shallow depth, wing profile and noble materials such as solid aluminum and fine wood veneers, it integrates surprisingly effortlessly into any décor environment.
In terms of sound, it really disappears: its subtle, yet broadband and dynamic sound seems to come from nowhere. The combined surface area of the 24 woofers also allows for extremely high distortion-free sound levels. Although not always necessary, they are essential for a truly authentic sound.
The SoundWall HP 600 does not require powerful amplifiers for optimal performance: efficiency and impedance are suitable for any amplifier. They can therefore be driven convincingly by virtually any transistor or tube amplifier.
