Flagship of the Elysian range, making it the highest-end speaker currently marketed by Wharfedale , the Elysian 4 is a stylish 3-way, 4-speaker bass-reflex column designed to be part of very ambitious systems.
There are two most relevant engineering elements of the Wharfedale : the bass loading system and the treble transducer. The first of these elements is the most advanced version of the brand's exclusive "Slot Loaded Profiled Port" (SLPP) bottom emission port, which, unlike what happens in other reflex loading systems, makes the posterior wave emitted for each of the Elysian 4's two woofers is forwarded to the listening room.
Even more important is that the harmful effects, especially the blows generated by turbulence, that occur in conventional bass-reflex ports are suppressed, as the air contained therein abruptly escapes to the outside.
Regarding the speakers used, they mount a 220 mm cone made of intertwined glass fibers and coated with a high plasticity compound that provides a high level of damping. Identical configuration, although in this case with a 150 mm cone equipped with a central dispersion modifier that linearizes the acoustic emission, is found in the midrange speaker.
For its part, the upper part of the spectrum is entrusted to an AMT ("Air Motion Transformer") tweeter, which stands out for moving the air in a very different way from that of a conventional dome tweeter thanks to the use of a folded diaphragm of large dimensions and very low mass.
The Elysian 4 is completed with a crossover filter made with audiophile-grade components and truly high-end construction and finishes.
