"The return of a true Hi-Fi classic." This is how Musical Fidelity presents the updated edition of one of its most legendary creations: the A1 stereo integrated amplifier, whose original version was released in 1985.
The twist that the renowned British brand has given to the design signed 38 years ago by Tim de Paravicini can be perfectly defined as spectacular, especially if one takes into account that the specifications, the circuits and the unmistakable physical appearance of the same have been maintained. .
First of all, it highlights a symmetrical circuit topology executed with discrete components, which allows delivering 25 watts in pure Class A (20 watts in the original) over 8 ohms with the addition of a smooth transition to Class B operation if at any given time the requires a greater current delivery.
The preamplification section has also been subject to substantial improvements, such as the incorporation of a volume potentiometer from the RK series of the prestigious ALPS or the use of regulated power lines to minimize noise, although, on the contrary, the circuitry The preamplification itself is exactly the same as that of the 1985 original, being based on a TL071 low-noise JFET preamplifier.
Of the renewed A1, we must also highlight the presence of a phono stage made with discrete very low noise elements compatible with MM and MC capsules, which also automatically adapts the load impedance of the latter.
