The SPU Wood A moving coil cartridge is a perfect combination of Japanese and Danish craftsmanship and technique that brings beauty in both its shape and finish as well as its sound. Unique features of the new Ortofon include a stunning Japanese beech wood casing, renowned for its hardness and durability, finished using the legendary Japanese Urushi lacquering method (6,000 years old!) to ensure achieve a hard, tough and beautifully multi-layered dark brown surface. This casing has a strong influence on the sound, the result being a very pleasant, open, dynamic and direct tonal range, in line with what the SPU models have always offered.
As far as technical specifications are concerned, the Wood A SPU combines an output level of 0.18 mV with a frequency response of 20 - 25,000 Hz (if we consider the cut-off points at -3 dB). Likewise, its internal impedance is 2.5 ohms and its recommended load impedance (in the event that it is associated with an external transformer, in the case of the model for Ortofon ST-7 moving coil capsules) greater than 10 ohms.
