Ortofón's new MC Verismo capsule has been developed on the basis of extensive knowledge of vibration properties, different shapes and material characteristics, as well as expertise in magnetics, mechanical design and technologies. This new state-of-the-art product, representative of the many design ideals of Ortofon, is truly an example of the highest degree of performance possible in contemporary analogue reproduction technology
The name Verismo derives from the Italian "vero", which means "true" and is the complete word for "realism". Verismo is a post-romantic operatic genre that has its origins in an Italian literary movement of the late 19th and early 20th century. The operatic tradition of verismo is associated with Italian composers such as Pietro Mascagni, Ruggero Leoncavallo, Umberto Giordano, Francesco Cilea and Giacomo Puccini, who sought to portray the world more realistically.
The chassis of the Verismo capsule is made of titanium using the Selective Laser Melting (SLM) technique pioneered by Ortofon. This technique allows precise control of the density of the body material, enabling extremely high internal damping.
The MC Verismo uses the Replicant 100 diamond from Ortofon. This Line Contact type stylus distinguishes itself by having a long, narrow contact surface, as close as possible to the original cutting stylus. This ensures the most accurate reproduction, the lowest distortion and a wider frequency range.
The incorporation of a solid diamond cantilever provides the best possible interface between the stylus and the armature, due to its hardness and crystalline structure. The improvements achieved with the use of a Diamond cantilever have redefined the boundaries of analogue reproduction, presenting greater inner detail, subtlety and depth than ever before.
The anchoring of the capsule with the arm occurs via three well-defined contact points located at the top of the capsule for absolutely seamless mechanical integration and results in a significant and impressive increase in dynamics, resolution and richness of detail.
