The result of two years of development at the highest level, the Reference 160M or REF 160M is a monophonic power amplifier that breaks ground in both sound and industrial design. It includes a circuit topology in whose signal path the number of components has been minimized and their quality increased, while it can operate in both Ultralinear and Triode modes.
The aesthetics of this exceptional amplifier also constitute a departure from what has been done to date by the Minnesota firm in products of this level. And with the REF 160M, the American firm's designers wanted to create a new style that complemented the aesthetics of the Reference 6 preamplifier, also including a transparent front panel that would allow you to see the spectacular and resplendent KT150 power tubes.
In addition to showing the aforementioned valves, said window incorporates an innovative two-layer construction with elegant engravings, which create an integrated power indicator whose marks are illuminated by hidden LEDs of adjustable brightness. The REF 160M includes a sculpted cover with an integrated fan to evacuate the heat generated by the four KT150 power valves and the two 6H30 attack valves that it incorporates.
For its part, the power regulation circuitry is based on solid-state devices to increase its efficiency, stability and reliability. The result is a new benchmark in musicality for each parameter that defines sound quality.
