The Edge W is designed to listen to music at full volume. When you do, you'll enjoy dynamic, powerful sound with all the musicality of your tunes. With just 14 carefully selected components, the Edge W has one of the cleanest signal paths available.
It delivers Cambridge's astonishingly unadulterated British Sound, with nothing added but nothing missing. Despite its high power, the Edge W delivers a very nuanced sound. The sound is perfectly balanced, with musical depth and clarity conveyed in every note. This is made possible by the way Cambridge has chosen the components: never by price, specification, or performance metrics.
The British listened rigorously. And they created their system with components that sound superb. This translates into a power amplifier that brings original recordings to life like no other. Although minimalist on the outside, the Edge W has a complex audio system on the inside.
To remove the barriers that separate you from the music, Cambridge have worked hard to minimise the number of components in the signal path. As a result, the Edge W offers a more faithful reproduction of the original recording; a three-dimensional sound with an impressive level of detail and amazing staging and focus.
Cambridge has pioneered the use of toroidal transformers in amplifiers, which has led to improved performance. With the Edge range they go one step further, using dual toroidal transformers of opposing symmetry. This cancels out electromagnetic interference while delivering exceptional power and maintaining constant tonality, whatever the playback volume level.
Using standard Class A amplifier technology has not been efficient enough for the Edge W. Instead, Cambridge has added polarisation to a traditional Class AB design, reducing distortion so that it is inaudible to the human ear. In addition, this unique configuration produces less heat and makes the entire system much more efficient.
