The C298 may be a basic power amplifier, but we've carefully thought through all the typical use cases to create rich feature content. The balanced inputs make the C298 well suited for use with both Hi-Fi preamplifiers and high-end AV processors.
These inputs include a trim control useful for adapting to other components. A line output allows for greater power addition on the same channel for additional speakers or subwoofers. Automatic detection with selectable threshold is perfect for automating complex systems or hiding in a closet.
We even include a ground plug which can be very helpful in eliminating ground loops and noise in complex multi-unit systems. Added to all this connectivity is a bridge switch that turns the C298 into an incredibly powerful monoblock amplifier. Start with one and add a second C 298 later when you upgrade your speakers.
NAD has moved away from outdated and very power-hungry linear power supplies and class AB output stages that waste almost half of the power consumed producing heat instead of sound. Instead we have developed better performing circuits based on switching power supplies and Class D output stages.
These new designs are highly linear over a wide bandwidth and provide consistent performance across all speaker loads, clearly improving on previous models. The generously sized power supply easily enables 185 watts continuous and over 570 watts instantaneous for short duration musical transients.
The innovative Asymmetrical Power-Drive fully utilizes every last available watt with its large reserves of available dynamic power to accurately reproduce musical transients without distortion or compression and provides pure DC power to all stages of the C298. This highly efficient supply also provides near-perfect voltage regulation over a wide range of conditions and provides a solid, noise-free foundation for the amplification stages.
