Replacing the award-winning MC2152 Limited Edition 70th Anniversary tube stereo power amplifier, created to celebrate McIntosh 's 70th birthday, the MC1502 shares the same technical specifications and timeless design of the legendary MC275 amplifier, which in some ways can be said to be his older brother.
The MC1502 incorporates a total of eight KT88 power tubes, that is, four per channel, as well as eight small signal tubes, specifically two 12AXA and two 12AT7 per channel. The 12AX7 are intended for balanced and input amplifiers, while the 12AT7 is responsible for voltage and attack amplifiers. Importantly, the KT88 includes McIntosh 's exclusive Air-Pipe cooling to cool its bases and thus increase its reliability, while the eight signal valves are mounted in ceramic sockets with gold contacts.
Another key element of the MC1501 is its Unity Coupled Circuit configuration, which allows it to ensure the delivery of all its output power regardless of the impedance of the associated speakers. The MC1501 also features McIntosh 's exclusive Sentry Monitor fuseless short circuit protection system, which deactivates the output stage before the current exceeds safe operating levels, and then automatically resets.
