A slightly simplified version, with a chassis with more conventional geometry and dimensions, of the formidable MC901, the MC451 shares the same concept. An absolutely unique conception in that it combines in the same block two amplifiers based on different devices to bi-amplify loudspeakers using the most appropriate for each channel and which is reflected in the exclusive Hybrid Drive technology, with an output section based on vacuum tubes and another based on transistors.
Specifically, the MC451 includes a tube amplifier (12AX7A and 12AT7 in small signal and KT88 in power amplification) of 150 watts continuous for the mid and high speakers and a transistor amplifier of 300 watts continuous to do the same with the speakers. woofers, the first using McIntosh 's iconic Unity Coupled Circuit output transformer to ensure full compatibility with 8, 4 and even 2 ohm speakers.
For its part, the “solid state” amplifier uses another emblematic solution from the New York firm, Autoformer technology, thus attacking all types of speaker systems with authority. A fundamental element of the MC451 is that the two aforementioned amplifiers work together in a synergistic relationship, each of them having been destined for a specific frequency range.
