The Klipsch R-101SW replaces the Klipsch R-100SW subwoofer and differs from it in several ways: a new design, a larger size, a new-generation driver and an optimised bass-reflex port. This results in deeper and more impactful bass. The Klipsch Reference R-101SW subwoofer is designed to support all types of loudspeakers, especially the new Klipsch Reference 2022 range.
The Klipsch R-101SW subwoofer incorporates a copper-coated TCP (Spun-Copper Thermoformed Crystalline Polymer) driver. Its crystalline structure allows it to be structurally stronger and stiffer. This improves the impact and responsiveness of the diaphragm while preventing degradation caused by repetitive movement. This loudspeaker is housed in a slightly larger enclosure than the previous generation, which increases the loading volume and consequently decreases the low-cut frequency. The increased cabinet depth has allowed the manufacturer to move and enlarge the bass reflex port to further improve the bass response.
The Klipsch Reference R-101SW subwoofer is therefore more efficient than its predecessor. It retains the 150 watts RMS digital amplifier (300 watts peak), yet manages to deliver a higher sound pressure level, measured at 115 dB (at a distance of 1 m). Its low frequency is now 29.5 Hz. This guarantees a great experience when watching action movies in a 20 to 30 m² area.
The Klipsch R-101SW subwoofer has a variable crossover frequency from 40 Hz to 120 Hz and an electrical phase control (0 or 180°). The good thing is that the switch-on can be triggered by an incoming signal, but it can also be forced. This prevents the cabinet from waking up too late when it is in standby mode... after the action has started. There is also a power-on indicator diode on the front panel.
